How to Stop Waterfall Leaks
Outdoor ponds with a waterfall can provide a serene and peaceful retreat. However, having a waterfall that appears to be leaking water can surely take that pleasure away. Having to refill the pond constantly can be a nuisance. Keep in mind that a little water evaporation, especially during hot, dry weather, is normal. If you notice that your pond seems to be losing more water than it should, a little inspection of the waterfall area is in order. Most often, the culprit is the waterfall, not the pond liner. This is assuming that a quality liner was purchased and there is not much of a chance it could have been punctured during construction. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove some of the rocks that make up the waterfall. See if the ground below is wet. Once you determine that you have a waterfall leak, you can fix the problem.
-
2
Turn off electricity to your pond.
-
-
3
Disassemble the waterfall. Remove each piece and set it aside.
-
4
Build your waterfall on top of the liner. The liner you use for the waterfall should be the same piece as the liner that is in the pond. Do not use two separate pieces. If you do, you will most likely still have leaks.
-
5
Stretch the liner out from the top of the pond as far as it will go to see how much you have to work with. Most likely, when you constructed the pond, the extra liner was rolled up.
-
6
Rebuild your waterfall on top of the liner. Use the large, flat pieces to make your stair steps, just as you did before, making sure to slant each of the large flat pieces slightly downward toward the pond.
-
7
Place smaller rocks or boulders on the sides of the flat pieces and keep placing rocks until you are satisfied with the look of the waterfall. Leave some liner on the outside of all rocks.
-
8
Roll up the extra liner on the outside of the rocks to ensure that no water leaks around the rocks.
-
9
Place more rocks on the other side of the rolled-up liner to help conceal it.
