Cole Slaw is always a great side dish!

Cole Slaw is so easy to prepare ahead, is a wonderful side dish, and always earns compliments! It's a simple, healthy side dish! This article will describe an easy way, AND an easier way to make cole slaw!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bag of cole slaw cabbage from the grocery store produce section
  • Vinegar, mayonnaise, sugar (or prepared cole slaw dressing from the grocery store)
  • Salt, pepper
  • Big bowl for stirring and serving
  1. Step 1

Open the bag of cole slaw. Dump it into a bowl. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.

  2. Step 2

Make the dressing: 1 1/2 cup of mayonnaise, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of cider vinegar - stir. Easier: purchase ready made cole slaw dressing from the condiment and salad dressing aisle of your grocery store.

  3. Step 3

Pour the dressing over the cabbage / slaw. This is to taste, but start out slow, as it seems to absorb the dressing and shrink down. It ends up wetter than when you start, so you don't want the cabbage swimming in the dressing. You can always add more later if it isn't moist enough.

  4. Step 4

Stir the dressing into the slaw, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. This is a popular side dish, great for preparation ahead of time; allowing you time to do all those other jobs you have! Cole Slaw is also a great electricity cost saver, as you don't have to heat up the house with your oven. And, don't forget the fiber! DELICIOUS and healthy....my kind of side dish! Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can substitute low fat or no fat mayonnaise, for a healthier version.
  • When you add the dressing and it sits for a bit, the cole slaw will 'shrink', so you can initially fill the bowl very full. I will often add more cabbage before I serve it the second day, as it is soupy. That is, if there is any left!
  • Cole Slaw should be kept cold after preparation and while serving.
