Learn How to Use Peppermint Oil as a Natural Mosquito Repellent

Being outdoors in the summer months can leave you eaten up by mosquitos and itching like crazy. Sure you can go to just about any store and get some insect repellent, but these repellents are made with chemicals that your skin will absorb, not exactly healthy for you, and certainly not healthy for the little ones. These repellents don't usually smell very nice either. Wouldn't you feel better about using a natural mosquito repellent on you and your family? Well you have come to the right place. Studies have shown that mosquitos do not like peppermint oil. In fact, it has been shown to kill mosquito larvae when the oil is put in water where the larvae are living. Not only does it repel mosquitos but it smells great too! In this article I will show you how to use peppermint oil as a natural mosquito repellent.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First you will need a small spray bottle. A good place to find one is in the travel section in the beauty aids department of any store.

  2. Step 2

For an excellant natural mosquito repellent mix several drops of the peppermint oil with water into the spray bottle. Shake well to distribute the water with the oil.

  3. Step 3

You will need to shake the bottle well before each use, because water and oil tend to seperate. Spray all over your skin avoiding the eyes as it could burn them. Then rub the spray into the skin.

  4. Step 4

Also, it is a good idea to spray this natural mosquito repellent onto your clothing for added protection.

  5. Step 5

Reapply every couple of hours as long as you are outdoors. Apply more often if you are very active and sweating.

  6. Step 6

If you find that the peppermint natural mosquito repellent doesn't seem to be working, then simply add more drops of the peppermint oil to the water.
