Pluck Eyebrows (Painless)

Nicely shaped eyebrows can do wonders for your face and appearance. In fact, people have been plucking their eyebrows since the time of Ancient Rome! Below are some simple tips on how to pluck your own eyebrows with minimal pain and discomfort.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Buy the right tweezers.

Buy angeled eyebrow tweezers, and be sure to wash them before use. You want tweezers that are easy to grip, so you might want a pair with a special handle (although cheap ones will work just fine).

  2. Step 2

    Use good lighting.

Make sure you are sitting in good lighting. Otherwise, you will miss stray hairs and end up with the wrong effect.

  3. Step 3

    Wash your face.

Wash your face to remove oil from the eyebrow area. This make it easier to grasp the fine hairs. Alternately, you may wish to rub an antiseptic o use an alcohol swab over the brown area.

  4. Step 4

    Get numb.

You don't need to numb the area, but if you prefer, you can use a little ice on the eyebrow. You may also use a local anesthetic, such as toothache or teething gel, which you can get over the counter at the pharmacy.

If you do numb the area, be very careful as you pluck, as you may inadvertently pluck skin and not feel it!

  5. Step 5

    Choose the right shape.

You may want to use an eyebrow pencil to color in the area you want to preserve. This makes it easier to avoid over plucking, and to be sure your brows are uniform.

The ideal eyebrow begins right over the tear duct, and ends just slightly past the outer corner of your eye.

When deciding on a shape, you should follow your brow line by matching it to the curve of your upper eyelid.

  6. Step 6

    Pull the skin taught.

Make sure the skin is pulled taught when you pluck, for best results.

  7. Step 7

    Pluck the right way.

Pluck only one hair at a time. This is less painful, but also prevents you from plucking too much.

Using the tweezer, grasp one hair and pull it out in a swift motion. Yes, this hurts, but it gets less painful over time, especially if you pluck frequently.

Typically, it is recommended that you start in the middle of your brow and pluck under the arch. Then pluck your eyebrow moving towards the outer eye. Finally, pluck the stray hairs on the inside toward your nose.

  8. Step 8

    Avoid over plucking.

The aim should be to get rid of stray hairs, and keep the brows nicely groomed. Don't pluck too much, or you'll be stuck with the “surprised” look for a couple weeks!

In generally, if you are planning to thin out the brows, you should only pluck underneath the eyebrows and NOT above them. Otherwise, your eyebrows may look too low and “angry.” The exception is to pluck stray hairs, which can be removed from any area.

  9. Step 9

    Clean the area.

Once you've finished, wash the area, and apply a swab of witch hazel. Try to avoid make up for a few hours.
