How to Replace a CPU Processor
Replacing a computer's processor is a useful process to know when one wants to upgrade to a faster processor or replace a faulty processor. While seemingly an intensive task, replacing a CPU is a surprisingly basic procedure that anyone can accomplish with just a few minutes time and some careful device handling.

Locate the CPU socket on the motherboard. This is usually located in the upper left to upper middle portion of the motherboard.

Locate the CPU socket's compression lever. This will be a small lever located along one of the sides of the CPU socket.

Depress the socket lever to release it and pull it upwards. This will unlock the CPU retention plate that holds the CPU in place.

Lift the CPU retention plate off of the CPU surface and away on its hinge exposing the CPU heat plate.

Lift the CPU directly up touching it only on its sides.

Place your new CPU into the socket in the same orientation of the CPU you removed. The processor will be keyed and will fit in only one orientation.

Close the CPU retention plate and re-secure the retention lever. This may take a small amount of pressure.

Tips & Warnings
Ensure your motherboard's BIOS is able to use the CPU you have installed, just because a motherboard has a socket matching a specific CPU does not ensure processor compatibility.
