AeroGardens are self-contained "aeroponic" systems that include everything from full-spectrum lighting to hydration. The name "aeroponic" refers to the fact that the roots are partially suspended in air, as well as the aerator that provides constant circulation of nutrients. AeroGarden kits are available for growing vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a good location for your AeroGarden. Choose a place with access to an outlet and at least 22 inches of overhead clearance. If you're growing herbs and vegetables, make sure your location is close to the kitchen.

  2. Step 2

Assemble your AeroGarden according to the package directions. Insert the grow bulbs, and insert the lamp arm into the base. Plug the lamp cord into the lamp hood, place the lamp hood on the lamp arm and set the bowl into the base.

  3. Step 3

Fill the bowl with water up to the fill line and add nutrients.

  4. Step 4

Place your seed pods into the base, with the tallest plants in the back and the shortest in the front. Place bio-domes on top of the seed pods, but do not remove the labels from the top.

  5. Step 5

Remove the bio-domes when the seeds have germinated. Raise the lamp as the plants get taller.

  6. Step 6

Add nutrient tabs every two weeks, and water as needed.

  7. Step 7

Harvest herbs frequently and vegetables when they're ready. Deadhead flowers as needed. Plants should last four to five months, depending on the specific variety.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use your AeroGarden to grow crops that you have had difficulty growing outside. Use one of the smaller AeroGardens to add flowers to your desk.
