Things You'll Need:
- Golf shaft identification gauge or electronic caliper
- Golf shaft
- Coarse sandpaper
- Marker
-
Step 1
Inspect the golf shaft's tip and make sure there is no debris stuck on it. Use a damp paper towel or coarse sandpaper to clear off the debris if necessary.
-
Step 2
Measure how far the shaft will fit into the hosel of the clubhead and mark the shaft at that point with a marker.
-
Step 3
Scrape the shiny coating off the shaft using coarse sand paper from the mark made in the previous step to the tip of the shaft. If measuring the tip thickness on a graphite shaft, scrape away the shiny coating with a utility knife being careful to not cut into the graphite threads.
-
Step 4
Measure the shaft tip using electronic calipers by placing the shaft tip in between the caliper arms and reading the number off the screen. You can also use an electronic caliper to measure the thickness.
