1
Decide what frog you're going to want to stitch. Do you have a picture of it already? Do you want to do something completely original? Your frog can look like a cartoon or like a real frog on his lily pad. Maybe you want to embroider a famous frog, such as Kermit the Frog or Frog from "Frog and Toad" for a children's room, or make an embroidery of your pet frog. It is up to you.
-
2
Draw your frog on a piece of paper, getting it just right. You can trace the frog if you wish. Remember not to get frustrated if it doesn't turn out perfectly the first time. Keep going until you get it. You may want to add ambiance to the picture, such as a marsh, pond or a lily pad. Maybe you want him to be catching a fly. Experiment and see what you like.

3
Lay down your graph paper. Transfer the frog to the graph paper. You can trace it or choose to do it freehand from your first design.
-
4
Decide what colors you want your frog to be. Go over the graph paper and color your frog with colored pencils until you are satisfied with how the colors have turned out. The colors will represent the yarn, and the squares will represent the squares on your embroidery. Your frog will likely have lots of greens and yellows and may even have some pink, brown, blue and black, depending on how you've decided to pose him.

5
Take your design to a yarn store and pick out the colors you've decided to use. Most likely, you'll be spending your time in the brown, green and yellow sections. Ask for assistance on color matching if you are unsure of what color to get. Yarn and craft stores are usually staffed with people who have working knowledge of such projects and will be able to help you get as close to your desired picture as possible.

Tips & Warnings
There is a software called PE-Design that you can use to create your embroideries. It is quite a challenging software to learn; however, once you have mastered it, you can even get patterns to embroider photographs. Don't get discouraged. Although it seems easy, it can be quite challenging for a beginner. Take your time. It can take years to master this! You can buy custom-made things with squares to embroider on, or you can draw your own squares so that it is easier to see the design.
