How to Use a Auto Detailing Buffer

An auto detailing buffer is used to polish and buff the paint and clear coat of your vehicle. In simple terms, it makes the car nice and shiny. It can also help to protect the paint from UV damage depending on the polishing and waxing compounds you use. The auto detailing buffer is an easy way to speed up the process of manual buffing.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a small amount of polishing compound on one of the pads, and place the pad on the bottom of the buffer. Most auto detailing buffing pads just "stick" on the bottom of the buffer itself.

    • 2

Place the pad/buffer on the surface of the vehicle and gently rub the compound in a small circle before turning the buffer on.

    • 3

Turn the buffer on its lowest setting and gradually increase the speed. While doing this, move the buffer in a circular motion. Do not apply a lot of pressure to the buffer since this can easily burn the clear coat off and then the paint. Let the buffer do the work while you move the buffer across the vehicle's surface.

    • 4

When you have covered the entire vehicle with polishing compound, change to a clean pad and rebuff the vehicle to remove the polishing compound.

    • 5

Repeat the process you used in Steps 1 to 4, except this time, use the wax. Use clean pads to remove the wax, and if and when the pad becomes saturated with wax as you are removing it, change to a fresh pad.

    • 6

Do a final wipe-down of the vehicle manually with the clean shop rags. This will remove any wax you have missed.
