How to Link PDF Files

Portable Document Format (PDF) files are frequently used for personal and professional creation of documents the intended audience might not have the program with which the original document was made. As with the original material, PDF documents can range in page length and file size. But multiple PDF files can be linked into one document by following a few simple steps.

      Save or move the individual PDF files into one folder to make the process of linking them together easier. Click the "Start" button and select "Explore" to access the folder on your computer. You can then copy and paste the individual files into a consolidated folder.

      Open your PDF writing software. In this example, Adobe Acrobat Pro is used. If you do not have PDF writing software, a free trial of Adobe Acrobat is available.

      Click the "Combine Files" drop-down menu and select "Merge Files into Single PDF." This action will launch a window that you can select and link individual files.

      Click the "Add Files" button on the "Combine Files" pop-up window.

      Select the folder the individual PDF files have been saved using the "Look in" drop-down menu. Select the files you want to link together and click the "Add Files" button.

      Click the "Next" button on the "Combine Files" window.

      Select the "Merge Files into Single PDF" option from the "Combine Files" window and click the "Create" button. This will begin the process of linking the selected PDF files together, which could take a few minutes depending on number of files and speed of your computer.

      Click the "Save" button after the process has completed.

      Choose a folder to file the newly created document using the "Save in" drop-down menu and name the PDF using the "File Name" field. Click the "Save" button. The linked PDF documents will automatically launch.
