How to Install Windows XP on a Tablet

Smaller computers have quickly become all the rage, with their sleek look and easy travel size. Tablet computers are one of the faces in this crowded market. However, the tablet computer sets itself apart from the rest of the field by giving users the ability to write on the actual screen with a stylus (some even have a touch screen). If the computer comes without an operating system, or the hard drive has been replaced, you will need to install Windows XP.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer.

    • 2

      Restart the computer.

    • 3

Press the spacebar when you are asked to start the computer from a CD.

    • 4

Press "Enter" when the "Welcome to Startup" page appears.

    • 5

Scroll down the license agreement page and press F8 at the bottom.

    • 6

Press "D" when prompted. This confirms you have backed up any information you wish to keep on a separate disk.

    • 7

Press "L" when prompted. This deletes the existing data on the computer.

    • 8

Hit "Enter" to select "Unpartitioned space."

    • 9

Hit "Enter" again to select "Format the partitioned using the NTFS file system." This takes 20 to 30 minutes and then automatically restarts XP.

    • 10

Select the settings you wish the computer to have.

    • 11

Type the production key numbers when prompted. The production key can be found on the Windows XP CD case.

    • 12

Complete the remaining system setting requirements (date, time, timezone). Windows will take another 20 to 30 minutes setting up your desired configuration and then automatically restart.

    • 13

      Click "OK" for Display Settings.

    • 14

Click "OK" for monitor settings. Windows will now complete its installation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before you install Windows XP onto your Tablet, make sure all information you need is backed up on a separate CD or disk because Windows will erase everything before it installs XP.
