How to Block a Contact on Yahoo Messenger

Yahoo Messenger is a popular online chat program that allows you to send and receive instant messages from family and friends. This easy-to-use program allows you to customize your contacts by phone number and screen names to enable you to see who is online, and communicate with them. Great as it is, there times you need to block someone with vile intentions. Ignoring and blocking an unwanted contact prevents them from seeing your status and communicating with you completely.

Instructions

1. After signing into Yahoo Messenger, click "Messenger" on the top menu panel. Scroll down and click "Preferences." Click "Ignore List" on the preferences window.

2. Select the option "Ignore only people below" and enter the Yahoo user ID of the person you want to block.

3. Click "Ignore" and click "OK" to save the changes. Once this person is placed in the ignore list, he is blocked from seeing your online status and cannot send you any messages. Alternately, you can delete the contact by right clicking on the main Messenger window, then scrolling down and clicking "Delete."
