Packing peanuts, those annoying pieces of Styrofoam that come in many shipments, do not have to go into the garbage after one use. There are many ways to recycle packing peanuts and avoid putting them in landfills. Some options are listed below.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Save some peanuts in a plastic bag for yourself. If you ever have to move, send a package or need fill for a gift box, the peanuts will work great for lining the box and keeping things safe.

  2. Step 2

Give the peanuts to a packaging company such as a mailbox store, an eBay store, a furniture store or a factory that packs and ships packages. This will help the store keep its costs down and ensures that the peanuts are reused instead of being left in the garbage.

  3. Step 3

Donate the packing peanuts to a local school for crafts. The peanuts can be used in art classes to make artwork. The kids will be taught how to make pictures and even collages using the Styrofoam peanuts.

  4. Step 4

List the peanuts and any other packing materials you have on a website like Craigslist.org, offering them for free. People who sell on eBay and do other regular shipping will appreciate having the packing peanuts.

  5. Step 5

Check to see if you have a packing peanut hotline where you can call to donate the peanuts. Not all communities have this service, but you can check to find out.
