How to Spot Weld at Home

Spot welding is frequently used to join sheets of metal together. Learn how to join metal together for many around-the-home projects as well as repair previously welded or riveted metal. Spot welding at home can be done easily with the proper equipment and techniques.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grinder
  • Welding machine that can interchange welding guns
  • Spot welding gun
  • Clamps
  • Welding goggles
  • Welding mask
  • Spray lacquer or paint
  1. Step 1

    Grind the metal where it was previously welded or riveted to ensure a smooth join.

  2. Step 2

    Attach the grounding cable to the bottom piece to be welded. Press the spot welding gun against the top surface to be welded. Repeat along the seam.

  3. Step 3

    Coat the weld with spray lacquer or paint to prevent rust.
