Step 1
TWITTER: Twitter is a fast and easy way to get traffic to your eHow articles. However, learn a little bit about Twitter etiquette before you start spamming everyone with the URL to your latest article. In the resources section at the end of this article are a few articles to read about learning to use Twitter the right way. If you are new to Twitter, these are important to read.
Use Twitter to spread the word about what you do on eHow. Don't always tweet a link about your article. Tweet about daily life. You'll be amazed at how often you will come across someone who is tweeting about something you wrote about. That's a perfect opportunity to tweet about your article! -
Step 2
FACEBOOK: Facebook is evolving as an excellent place to do serious social networking. You can connect with people you've met through business or socially...reconnect with old friends. Facebook gives you the ability to upload your eHow articles to your main page. Any of your Facebook friends can then click on the link and read your article.
Facebook is an efficient way to post your articles while you take time to say hello and connect with others. Remember, don't go there just to post articles. That turns you into the big yawn! -
Step 3
NING SOCIAL NETWORKS: Ning is an online platform that allows people to set up their own social network. You can search http://ning.com for the wide variety of social networks and find some that interest you. If you love organic gardening or are a stay at home Mom, you will find networks with people who have like interests.
Sign up for the network, add your info (including a link to your eHow profile!) and then you can spread the word to other members that you write on eHow. Post articles that you write that will be of interest to members on the network. Remember to interact...keyword "social". -
Step 4
DIGG and STUMBLEUPON: Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet. StumbleUpon discovers web sites based on what you list as your interests, learns what you like and brings you more.
These sites are a great place to spread the word about your eHow articles! There are buttons right on eHow at the top of your article that allow people to Digg and Stumble your articles. Best practice says that you should not DIGG or STUMBLE your own articles, so join a group on eHOW (there is currently a "DIGG" group) or network with others who love to use DIGG and STUMBLE. Suggest that they DIGG or STUMBLE your article if they enjoy it. -
Step 5
MYSPACE: MySpace is used by many as a large social network. List your current articles on your MySpace page. You can also post blogs on MySpace. This might be a great place for you to write about what you're doing on eHow and link a few articles in the body of the blog post!
-
Step 6
EMAIL: Put a link to one of you favorite eHow articles in the signature line of your email. Most email programs will allow you to make this setting so you don't have to keep entering the information. Change up your article every now and then to keep people interested.
-
Step 7
YOUR BLOG: If you have a personal blog, add the eHow Widget to your blog. This will keep people updated about your current articles. For more information on how to add the eHow widget to your blog, see the resource section at the end of this article.
-
Step 8
PINGOMATIC: Pingomatic is a service that updates multiple services and search engines with web content. Enter the URL of your eHow article where it says "Blog Name" (you do not have to have a blog to use this service...just the name of your eHow article and URL) and it will be broadcast to as many search engines as you select in the list. It's a great idea to update this once a day with your best articles to drive in more traffic.
-
Step 9
YAHOO ANSWERS: This is a time consuming process but if you take some time to search current questions on Yahoo Answers, you may come across someone who has a question that can be answered by one of your eHow articles. Add the link to your article and it is possible that you will receive some traffic from this.
-
Step 10
There are a multitude of places to network your articles. Do not limit yourself to one place. If you write on one topic frequently, visit sites with message boards that allow you to post a link to your article. Pay attention when you network on the Internet...your next great article may be sparked by a conversation you have with someone on a social networking site. Not only will you be marketing your articles, you will be picking up ideas for new one!
