Step 1
Have a good sense of humor when approaching the one you're about to encourage. Try to be upbeat and honest offer truthful words. Fake encouragement will do one any good.
-
Step 2
Assess the situation. What is the issue of problem that has become overwhelming for the person and has them in a funk? Be aware of how important the issue is to the one you're encouraging.
-
Step 3
After understanding the issue, look for the persons strengths. Is he good at what he is trying to accomplish? Make sure to praise him, making feel good about his abilities. Provide him with good examples of his accomplishments this will help him feel good about himself.
-
Step 4
Appreciate his efforts. Whatever he's done up to that point should not go unappreciated. Make mention of the time and effort he's already apply to his goal. Giving up now would be time wasted on his past efforts.
-
Step 5
Offer to help. Offer your time to listen on days he's simply feeling overwhelmed and ready to give up.
