treat your childs hair for head lice with Lice MD

Has your child come home from school or playing outside with thier friends scratching their heads? Then to your surprise you find those yucky little bugs and nits in their hair. Dont get upset, just relax, this is treatable. It doesnt mean anything is wrong with you or child, it has nothing to do with bad hygiene. We'll get through this together!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a fine tooth comb
  • Lice MD found at the drug store
  • Lice and Egg killing furniture and bedding spray also found at the drug store
  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • a regular brush
  • patience
  1. Step 1

first off i recommend shampooing and conditioning your child's hair. scrub it throughly and rinse, condition extra good and rinse as well.

  2. Step 2

Brush out your childs hair with your your regular brush and get out the tangles before you use the fine tooth comb. I recommend doing this in the bathroom and under light. If you have checked your own hair and have nothing, you should wear a shower cap for preotection from spreading it to yourself.

  3. Step 3

seperate the hair into sections and comb through each section carefully with the fine tooth comb. They sell special combs specifically for lice at almost all stores. (walmart and walgreens for sure) I also recommend buying the furniture spray special for headlice and also the medicine that kills bugs and eggs, i recommend LiceMD.

  4. Step 4

after going through each section carefully and removing as many bugs and eggs as you can and puting the bugs either in the sink and washing them down the drain or flushing them down.

  5. Step 5

then your going to section it out again and carefully saturate your childs hair with the LiceMD medication. Make sure to read the instructions and make sure not to get the medicine in their eyes or on the their skin. after the hair is completely saturated let sit for 10 minutes. or whatever your specific instructions direct you to do. while their sitting, thats a good time to spray down the furniture with the bedding spray, collect any pillows and stuffed animals and blankets and put them into garbage bags, ready to wash and dry.

  6. Step 6

after the medicine has set, your going to comb through again, very throughly just as you did before. Do not rinse the medicine out yet, I would recommend doing this over the bathtub, lay down a towell around your childs neck and comb comb comb, keep combing until your not seeing any eggs or bugs, then rinse throughly and wash with shampoo and condition again. if its hard to get out the medicine, try using dawn dish soap (remember its tough on grease! lol and this has a greasy feel to it) after youve throughly rinsed their hair you should blow dry it, the heat is going to kill anything that you might have missed.

  7. Step 7

absolutlely make sure everything in your house it clean and sanitized otherwise everything you just did was pointless. the couch and chairs must be sprayed down and the carpets vaccummed and sprayed. the mattresses sprayed, any stuffed animals or clothes that werent put way should be washed again. any towells that your child has used to be washed and do not allow them to use them again. (my daughter will usually reuse her bath towell a couple times before i wash it) which i think is usually perfectly fine but not in this situation. well the best of luck to you and i hope you can conquer this! its no fun , but it happens to almost all children at some point in their child hood.

Tips & Warnings
  • their are numerous at home solutions if you do not want to use the medications on your child.
  • the main thing is combing with the fine tooth comb! comb comb comb!!
  • you HAVE to wash the clothing and bedding or everything youve done is a waste of time. it will come right back if your child lays on a pillow that has an egg and it hatches and it starts all over again!
  • carefully read the instuctions on everything you buy, talk to your childs doctor and ask what they prefer you do.
  • for children under 2 i would recommend using mayonaisse or crisco first before a medicine.
