Step 1
You have no reason to be shy, we are all the same inside, and you have to realize that. I graduated high school in 1978, and every now and then I bump into some jock or cheerleader from those days gone by. I am amazed at how the field has been leveled with the passing of time, these types used to intimidate my psyche. Now, I see them as equals. We were back then too, but my shyness just wouldn't allow me to see it.

Step 2
If there is something about your physical appearance that causes you to be shy, then change it. I'm not talking about major surgery, a new hairstyle can work wonders, also a new wardrobe. However, if you have a giant nose, and it bothers you, then think about having it fixed.
-
Step 3
Practice moving and speaking in front of a mirror, it sounds silly, but repetition will encourage new habits to form. Practice on your family and close friends too, try to be more confident and assertive when you interact with people. This too will become second nature with practice.

Step 4
When it comes down to going out on a date, pick a place you are comfortable with. Try and picture as many scenarios as you can, and think of how you would deal with each one. Don't be timid on the date, but rather speak your mind. You may find that most people, even though they hide it well, are shy and apprehensive when meeting new people.
