How to Make a Delicious Spice Rub for Grilling Meat

Using a spice rub on meat is a great way to add flavor to your next grilled meal. This spice rub is extremely versatile and tastes great on chicken, fish, pork, and beef. Simply mix the ingredients together and rub into the meat before grilling. This recipe make about 2/3 of a cup, which is enough for 4 pounds of meat. This spice rub would also make a great gift for any grill enthusiast.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 Tbsp paprika
  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • bowl and fork for mixing
  • air tight container for storing
  1. Step 1

    Place all of the ingredients into a medium-sized mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

    Use a fork to thoroughly incorporate all ingredients. Make sure you break up any lumps in the brown sugar.

  3. Step 3

    Once the mixture is completely blended, rub it into the raw meat. Then grill the meat as usual. The spice rub will add a wonderful flavor to your grilled chicken, fish, pork, or beef.

  4. Step 4

    This spice rub can also be stored in an air tight container. A glass canning jar or large spice jar work well. The spice rub does not need to be refrigerated.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make a large batch of this spice rub and distribute it among several glass jars to have host(ess) gifts ready throughout the grilling season. Attach a small card with the recipe using twine.
