Running a home based business can be both challenging and rewarding. When your business is desserts, it can also be delicious. As with any venture, you want to start out on the right foot. In this article are the steps to starting your baking business from home.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Self Confidence
  • Oven
  • Pans
  • Boxes
  • Recipes
  • Quality Ingredients
  • Customers
  1. Step 1

Check your state and county websites for the law on operating a food service out of your home. Make sure that you obtain all licenses and certifications before your grand opening.

  2. Step 2

Decide what your best recipes are and perfect them. You can always add more items to your menu later, but this gives you a solid start. You should have at least one "claim to fame" recipe.

  3. Step 3

Make sure you have an oven that heats and sits evenly. Have several pans and keep them in great condition. This keeps your product consistent. Also have cooling racks, sifter, spoons, ladles, rubber spatulas, hand mixer and standing mixer.

  4. Step 4

Presentation is the key to professionalism. Stand apart with nice clean boxes for your baked goods. Cover them with wax paper inside the box. You can even tie a bow around it. You can also label them with your company name.

  5. Step 5

Get the word out. Tell your church members, fellow P.T.A. members, bowling buddies and anyone else that you know. I find that free samples are a guaranteed marketing strategy. But don't forget to give them a card or flier so they know how to order from you.

  6. Step 6

Always follow through with your contacts and customers. Have your products ready when you say that you will. Be consistent with prices and hours for delivery or pickup.

Tips & Warnings
  • A happy customer is a repeat customer.
