Test for a Latex Allergy

Is it a latex allergy?

Many women complain about having an irritation after sex. Several rush to the conclusion that the irritation means they're allergic to latex; but that is seldom the case. Many women experience irritation from spermicidal lubricants; such as nonoxonyl 9.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Condoms
  • Various Water-based lubricants
  • scissors (to cut the condoms, if needed)
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

    1. Try a latex condom that does not contain spermicidal lubricant.

  2. Step 2

    2. Try several different brands of condoms. Different condom brands use different lubrication. Often times the lubrication on the condoms is what is causing irritation.

  3. Step 3

    3. Make sure you are using plenty of waterbased lubricant. Lack of lubrication may cause friction, therefore leading to irritation.

  4. Step 4

    4. Cut two square out of a condom. Tape one square to each of your upper arms. One square should be taped on with the lubricated side down, where the other should be placed with the lubricated side up. Leave this on for 24-48 hours. This will help determine what you're sensitive to.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try different types of lubricants, if needed.
  • If you find you have a sensitivity to latex, look for latex free condoms, like the Trojan Supra.
