How to Get the Best Discount on Major Appliances
Major appliances, such as stoves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers, can take a big chunk of change from your wallet. These items can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. You don't have to settle for low-quality products if you become a smart shopper and watch for sales. High-end brand-name appliances may cost a little more up front, but they usually last for many years and have good warranties. You can find great deals on these products, but you have to do some research first.

1
Wait to buy big appliances in the months of September and October, when retailers have their best sales. Once they receive the newest models, they discount last year's models for quick sales. Early January is also another good month, since it's after the holiday season.
-
2
Buy appliances around major shopping days. "Black Friday" is a day when almost everything retail is on sale, including appliances. Christmas is a time when retailers mark down products. Almost any major, national holiday will have some sort of sale.
-
3
Negotiate with appliance salespeople. The sticker price on the appliance is not necessarily the final sale price, especially if you are buying an expensive item. Not many shoppers negotiate retail prices, but some sales managers will work with you if they are eager to make a sale that day.
-
4
Purchase the floor model of the appliance you need. They are often deeply discounted, especially if the store is trying to make room for newer models.
-
5
Go to appliance outlets or "close-out stores." They don't have the latest and greatest store decor or advertising items, but they pass the marketing savings onto the customers. If the store doesn't carry the specific appliance you want, leave your name and phone number, so they can call you if they happen to acquire it.
-
6
Look at returned or refurbished appliances. There is usually a warranty that covers any defects for a certain number of days (at least 30). The prices are discounted because the items have been used, but you can find some excellent deals this way.
-
7
Ask real estate agents in your area if they know anyone who wants to sell his home appliances. People who are trying to sell their home are usually trying to get rid of some items.
-
8
Check listings on online classified websites for newer appliances. People list items to get fast cash or to make room for newer appliances.
