The following is a very brief tutorial on how to freeze an ipod nano. This very well may work an all (not the ipod touch) ipods. If the following instructions do not work, there is a good chance there is hardware damage and there may be no saving your precious ipod.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start your ipod up if it is off prior to freezing.

  2. Step 2

Hold down the center button, and while doing this press and hold the menu button. Do this for about 6 seconds.

  3. Step 3

If this does not work after 10 seconds or so, you need to reinstall your firmware. To do this you must connect your ipod to your computer.

  4. Step 4

Next you must open up itunes, and go to the ipods options.(These may be inside the "advanced options" area on the top bar)

  5. Step 5

Finally select "format ipod" (Note, this WILL delete all files installed on the ipod, including those in flash storage.)

Tips & Warnings
  • Depending on the ipod, you might have to use the play/pause button instead of the menu button while holding the center button.
  • I am not responsible for files lost during formating of the ipod.
