Things You'll Need:
- Time for observation
- Money
-
Step 1
First, take into consideration the age of your cat. Older cats may have trouble jumping to high places, so you can buy carpeted stairs or ramps to help him get to his favorite place. If you have a kitten, it might be a good idea to get a cat tree with hanging toys and scratching posts.
-
Step 2
A cat tree from Drs Foster and Smith.Next, consider her interests. If she likes to lay in the sun or by a window, you should get a window perch. These are carpeted and hang or screw into the wall. If she likes to climb and play, get a cat tree with places to climb and rest and hanging toys.
-
Step 3
Consider your budget. I have seen a cat tree called kitty city that costs 500 dollars. You can get a good tree at Walmart for about 50 dollars. One place that has a lot of cat trees for you to choose from is Drs Foster and Smith.com. Just go to the website, click cats, click furniture, and start looking!

on 8/1/2009 Nice article. Even older cats like to scratch on cat trees. My Maine Coon is 14-years-old and he still scratches, romps and plays with catnip. And Drs Foster & Smith have excellent cat trees - very high quality and sturdy.
