How to Decorate a Toddler (Girl's) Room on a Budget

Your little girl should love her new room.

When you're on a budget, any added expense that's not absolutely necessary can be stressful. Although your goal is to please your toddler and give her a room that she can grow into for the next several years, you still need to keep your budget in mind as you shop. With a few budgeting tricks, you can decorate a little girl's room for a fraction of what you might think it costs.

Instructions

1. Salvage what you can from the nursery. You'll have to ditch the crib, but items like tables, dressers and even a chair can be added to the toddler's new room.

2. Opt to leave the wall covering and flooring as is. If the room must be painted, save money by choosing a color that will go on in one or two coats. If the floor isn't salvageable, purchase a large area rug instead of installing new flooring.

3. Check consignment shops for furniture pieces first. You can often find bed frames and dressers for much cheaper prices when you're willing to buy them used.

4. Use colors your toddler loves for the bedding and curtains. When you focus on color, rather than material, you can often find cheaper options. Plus, you'll make your toddler happy because she likely cares more about the color than having an expensive fabric.

5. Keep the accessories simple and sparse. Instead of purchasing expensive decorative accessories that probably aren't safe for a toddler anyway, decorate the room with her favorite stuffed animals or dolls.

6. Add storage bins and shelving for your toddler's toys. Storage that can slide under the bed or sit against the wall gives your toddler more room to play, and plastic storage bins are generally inexpensive.
