Making tea should be a soothing ritual. A cup of tea is an excuse to step back and savor life, as it should be lived. Tea should be prepared and shared with friends or family. Tea time should be relaxing and fun. Sit back, relax enjoy the sounds, smells, and tastes of your tea. Enjoy the friendship and conversations you will have over a nice hot pot of Irish tea.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • China tea pot
  • china tea cup
  • Irish tea
  • Tea kettle
  • tea cozy
  1. Step 1

Run the cold-water fun for a few seconds before filling a teakettle. You want good clean cold water to start your tea. Don’t use hot water, due to the impurities.

  2. Step 2

Bring the water to a brisk boil – Let the kettle whistle. Whistling kettles provide a warm cozy or homey feel to the tea making process. Rinse a china pot with a little of the boiled water. Empty out the water. Don’t use a metal pot. Metal pots do not keep the tea flavor pure.

  3. Step 3

Spoon 3 to 5 teaspoons of loose Irish tea into the warmed teapot. Use a good-quality tea.

  4. Step 4

Bring water back to a boil and immediately pour into teapot.

  5. Step 5

Cover pot with tea cozy and allow steeping for five minutes. This is important, if you make it shorter, the flavor of the tea will not have time to develop. Steeping longer than 5 minutes of brewing will leave the tea with a bitter taste from the tannin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never reheat tea. Reheating gives the tea an old bitter taste. You want your pot of tea to be fresh each time.
