Audi automobiles are stylish, reliable and sporty. Whether you buy the luxury sedan or the sport coupe, you can expect fast acceleration, quick cornering and strong stopping power. Generally, Audis require very little maintenance, but sometimes you will need to change the brake pads on the disc brakes. Changing the disc brake pads on your Audi is a piece of cake and can be performed by any home mechanic.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Put the car in park and use the jack to lift the front driver's-side tire off the ground. Use the lugnut wrench to loosen and remove the lugnuts on the wheel.

  2. Step 2

Slide the wheel off the wheel studs and locate the brake caliper on the lower right portion of the disc. Use the socket wrench to remove the two caliper mounting bolts.

  3. Step 3

Slide the caliper off the disc and flip it over. Use the needle-nose pliers to pull the pads out of the caliper and insert the new ones. Slide the caliper back in place and retighten the mounting bolts.

  4. Step 4

Slide the wheel back on the wheel studs and retighten the lugnuts. Repeat Steps 1-4 for the remaining three wheels.

Tips & Warnings
  • Uncap the brake-fluid reservoir under the hood when sliding the brake calipers back in place to allow the brake shoes to compress and give you more room to work.
