How to Convert GIF Animation
GIF animation files are sometimes thought of as video files, but they are really just a series of GIF files sequenced together like a slideshow. If you have some GIF animation files that you want to convert into true video files, you can do it with a video converter program that supports animated GIF input files. Download and install the River Past Video Cleaner from the CNET Download Center. The program is free to try, but you do have to pay to keep it (2009 price: $29.95).

Open the River Past Video Cleaner on your computer. Click "Add Files" and select the animated GIF files that you want to convert.

Click the arrow by "Output Format" towards the bottom of the screen to see your output options. There are several video formats you can convert animated GIF files to with the River Past Video Cleaner, including: MOV, DIVX, MPEG and AVI. Select the format type that you prefer. If you are unsure which to select, MPEG is a good universal format.

Click the arrow by "Output Directory" to see your output location options. Click on the "Browse" button to select the location for the converted files to go.

Convert your animated GIF files by clicking "Convert" from the toolbar. When the files finish converting, you will get a conversion summary pop-up announcing its completion. Click "OK," and you can use new video files.
