How to Sew Silk Scarves
Silk scarves are an accessory that can brighten up any outfit and instantly add color and style. Instead of spending exorbitant amounts of money on expensive, ready-made silk scarves, anyone with basic sewing skills can make an exciting assortment of silk scarves to complement every clothing choice. With only a hem around the four scarf edges, silk scarves sew up quickly and easily. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 3/4 yard silk charmeuse (any color)
- Sewing machine
- Sewing notions (matching thread, pins, scissors)
- Tape measure
- Iron
- Press cloth

Cut the fabric into a 24-inch square.

Lay the press cloth over the fabric. Set the iron to a medium heat, and press the fabric square well.

Begin turning under 1/8 inch along one side edge of the fabric. Lay the press cloth over the turned fabric, and press the fold with the iron. Continue turning the fabric under and pressing the fold with the iron along the entire side of the fabric. Repeat with the other three sides.

Fold each edge under 1/8 inch again, and repeat the pressing technique performed in Step 3. Pin the folds to secure, if desired.

Stitch very close to the folded edge along each of the four sides of the fabric. When you reach a corner, lower the needle to its lowest point, raise the presser foot, rotate the fabric 90 degrees, lower the presser foot and continue sewing in the same fashion. Clip the threads and remove the fabric to finish the scarf.
