Step 1
Search for a company that places foreign exchange students. There are several of these companies, some of which include AYUSA, CCI, and Education First Foundation for Foreign Study. Make sure that the company you choose allows you to pick your own student and ensures that the student will have their spending money and medical insurance.

Fill out the application. You will have to provide several references and submit to a background check. Once the initial application has been reviewed, the company will contact your family for an interview.

Choose a student. Most companies provide you with several applications from students whom they feel would be a good match for you and your family. Things you should consider when making this decision include the student's culture, age and religious background. A representative from the company will be available for you to consult with if you have any questions.

Familiarize yourself with the country the student is from. It is helpful to have a basic understanding of the land, food, customs, music and traditions of the region. You may also want to learn some words or phrases in the student's native language.

Prepare your home for the student's arrival. You will need to have a bed for the student, as well as space for his or her belongings. Although the student will have her own possessions, you might want to provide her with basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and deodorant.
