How to Clean AEM Cold Air Intake Filters
An AEM cold air intake filter is typically conical in shape and attaches to the end of the cold-air intake pipe on your vehicle. This is generally an aftermarket option on most vehicles and allows a larger volume of air to flow into the engine than what is available with the stock air box on most production vehicles. Over time, these filters become dirty; however, AEM filters can be cleaned and reused.
Instructions
-
-
1
Unscrew the hose clamps on the the filter where it connects to the air intake.
-
2
Remove the air filter from the air intake pipe.
-
-
3
Tap all loose dirt off the filter and shake clean.
-
4
Fill a bucket of water enough so that the entire filter can be submerged in it (excluding the filter neck) and then add 12 ounces of AEM filter cleaning solution to the water.
-
5
Submerge the filter in the bucket of water so that the water covers the entire filter but not the filter neck. Do not allow water to enter through the filter neck.
-
6
Soak the filter for 10 minutes.
-
7
Agitate the water by rotating the filter back and forth to further remove any remaining dirt and debris.
-
8
Take the filter out of the water, empty the bucket and repeat steps 4, 5, 6, and 7.
-
9
Take the filter out of the water, empty the bucket and allow the filter to air dry.
-
10
Reinstall the filter. Installation is the reverse of removal.
