For theatre, dressing up, especially cosplay, and whatever other reason you would want to wear a wig over your regular hair, here's how to keep your hair tame and under control under your wig.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old pair of nylons
  • Scissors
  • Wig
  • Your head
  1. Step 1

First, know that tying your hair up and putting a wig over it would not turn out so well. You'll have bumps on your head that will show and stray bits of hair can stick out.

  2. Step 2

Get an old pair of nylons. Put them over your head for measurement, and then tie up the ends together in a knot at approximately the top of your head.

  3. Step 3

Cut away the ends (the legs) leaving enough at the knot. The knot may be too bumpy, and you can always untie it and allow the ends to be loose.

  4. Step 4

Once you feel you made a good enough wig cap, put all of your hair up into the cap. To avoid bumps, don't tie your hair into a ponytail or a bun. Instead if you have thick hair, twist it and use pins to secure it. Be sure to get your hair up high enough so nothing pokes out in the back.

  5. Step 5

Put the cap on and push loose strands inside. Depending on wig length and style, you would push the cap back so that the front rests on it as opposed to your forehead.

  6. Step 6

Do the same with the back, and if you have a short wig, you might want to push the cap up further from the nape of your neck to prevent it showing.

  7. Step 7

Place the wig on over your head and cap, taking notice of the cap position and wig position and them lining up correctly. It should be a comfortable fit with little to no sliding, and nothing showing.
