A delicious and stylish twist on a simple dessert!

While jello may never become part of gourmet cooking, this easy jello recipe can be quite elegant. It features mandarin orange slices floating in orange jello - simple and delicious! Using the syrup from the mandarin oranges gives the jello a more complex flavor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One box of orange Jell-O
  • One can of mandarin orange slices in light syrup
  • Water
  • A kettle or pot
  • A mixing bowl
  • Dish(es) to set the jello in
  • Fresh mint to garnish
  1. Step 1

Start boiling water. You will need one full cup, so place at least one and a half cups in your kettle or pot.

  2. Step 2

While waiting for the water to boil, get out a mixing bowl and pour in the contents of one package of orange jello.

  3. Step 3

Once the water has boiled, pour one cup into the mixing bowl and stir.

  4. Step 4

    Wait 1-2 minutes.

  5. Step 5
Here I have poured out the syrup into my measuring cup and just need to add water before I add it to the jell-o.

Here I have poured out the syrup into my measuring cup and just need to add water before I add it to the jell-o.

Open one can of mandarin oranges in light syrup and drain the liquid into a measuring cup. Top it off to 1 full cup with cold water. Add the mandarin orange syrup and water mixture into the mixing bowl and stir.

  6. Step 6

Pour contents into your serving dish. I recommend a clear glass square or rectangular pan or individual glass custard cups, but you can use a mold or some other dish.

  7. Step 7

Place the dish in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.

  8. Step 8

Stir in mandarin orange slices and keep in the refrigerator until the jello is set, about 2-4 hours.

  9. Step 9

Optional: You can garnish with mint leaves.

  10. Step 10

Serve and enjoy your mandarin orange jello dessert!

Tips & Warnings
  • This makes 4 servings. You can double or triple the recipe to make even more!
  • Always allow the jello to cool a bit before adding the mandarin orange slices so they don't cook and fall apart.
  • Use a tray if you make individual dishes to catch any spills and making moving them in and out of the refrigerator easy.
