Step 1
Regardless of manufacturer of hard drive, it is very easy to format your hard drive. Old versions of windows may not provide UI based formatting. You may have to open the command prompt and type the command 'format c:'. Now a days, Microsoft has made life very easy by providing simple UI option to format the hard drive.

Step 2
Format Hard DriveOpen 'My Computer'.
Select a drive that you want to format.
Right click on that selected drive. A menu should open.
Select an option 'Format'.
Follow the instructions to format your hard drive. -
Step 3
There is an alternative option to format your hard drive. Extra benefit of this option is that this option lets you to format external hard drives also. You just need to connect your external hard drive in USB and follow the instructions.

Disk ManagementOpen 'Control Panel'.
Open 'Administrative Tools'.
Open 'Computer Management'.
Under 'Storage' section of left side menu, select 'Disk Management'
option. -
Step 5
Format Hard DiskSelect a drive that you want to format and right click on it.
A menu bar will appear.
Select 'Format' option in it.
Follow the instructions to format selected hard drive.
