Things You'll Need:
- Dvd Rom- you can purchase at walmart or other places.
- screwdrivers - phillips, and straight slot.
- about an hour for labor.
-
Step 1
image found on http://www.custom-computers.com/assets/images/bulidit.jpgYou'll need to take the screw driver you need. Most of the ones on the back of the computer are either straight slot or phillips screw driver. Most of them are phillips. Then you'll want to take the cover off of the back of your computer. Some covers have three sides to them to completely uncover the back. Some of them are only on the one side for access. When you take off the computer it should look something like the image beisde the paragraph.
-
Step 2
image found on www.usereasy.comYou'll be better off to take the power supply out. Mine won't come completely out but if you unscrew the back of the power supply. There are 4 screws to unscrew. Then that should give you the needed access to take the old cd rom and put in a new DVD Rom/CD Rom . ( You have to pull the power supply out to replace the CD Rom with a DVD Rom because of room. At least that is how it is on my PC.)
-
Step 3
image found on www.electronicsfr.comNow you'll want to check and make sure you have the right player for your computer. You'll do this by getting the software information about your computer. For example mine is Hp and so I had to find one to fit the specifications of my Hp computer. If you have Mac, apple and so one you'll want to check to see what you need to purchase to replace it with.
-
Step 4
Next, you'll want to take the old Cd Rom out of the portal where it's being held. Usually they are placed in the top portal for use of the bottom at a later date for adding a 2nd one.
-
Step 5
Then you'll take the DVD rom and replace it with the Cd Rom. This may take some time depending on how big your portal is for the DVD Rom. Once you have it taken out you can always keep the cd player in, but the DVD Rom now a days have the Cd Rom built in with it as well. So that is why you'll want to take it out.
-
Step 6
When you've put the DVD Rom back in you need to hook it with the right stuff that you unhooked the Cd Rom from. These wires and connections usually go in the same way so it should be easy once you get it in.
-
Step 7
You'll then be able to put the power supply back in.
-
Step 8
Next. Just make sure everything is screwed in correctly and put the cover back on it. Then start your computer. It should show new hardware on the computer screen when it comes up. You are all set. It's as simple as just taking the old one out and putting the new one in.
