Grill the Perfect Burger
Grill the Perfect Burger

This is an easy guide to the grilling of the perfect burger.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Propane Grill
  • Hand-Sculpted Burgers
  • Quality Cheese
  • Fresh Hamburger Buns
  • Condiments
  1. Step 1

Before any cooking begins, you've got to start with quality ingredients. Local meat markets are the best place to get fresh meat, which will make your burger light up the party. Purchase about .4 lbs of ground chuck per burger. I prefer to use chuck over sirloin, as the former tends to remain more moist and hold together better. Its also about 35% cheaper.

  2. Step 2

In a larger bowl, combine the meat, salt, pepper, and a good splash of Worcester sauce. Give the meat a couple turns to spread the ingredients, but don't overdo it. Mashing the meat too hard can make the burger very dense.

  3. Step 3

Shape the burgers into about balls a bit small than a baseball and press them into patties. They should be about a half inch thick and then circumference of a standard CD. Let the meat rest to room temperature and prepare the grill.

  4. Step 4

I like my burgers Medium to Medium-Well, which calls for a temperature best gauged the following way. Place your hand 3-4 inches above the grill, you should be able to hold your palm down for 2-3 seconds without having to pull away.

  5. Step 5

Add all the burgers on at once, noting the hotter and colder zones of the grill with the above technique. Let the burger sit for 3-5 minutes. The top should start to look a bit cooked.

  6. Step 6

Flip the burger ONCE. Too much flipping causes to dry out and burn. let the burger sit for another 3 minutes, adding cheese and the buns to the grill for the last minute.

  7. Step 7

After the cheese begins to bubble, remove the burgers. Do not place directly on the burgers, as the meat needs to rest for a couple minutes after removing from the grill.

  8. Step 8

Garnish your burger with ketchup, mustard, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, or anything else that your heart fancies. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not press the burger, this causes the flavor juices to run off of the burger and causes flame ups that will burn the outside of the burger.
  • Do not cut the burger to check if its done. Either leave the burger on a little longer or use a meat thermometer.
  • Adding bleu cheese or feta crumbles to the burgers adds a delicious tart to the burger.
  • Make sure to constantly wash your hands after touching raw meat.
  • Keep the kitchen clean to avoid cross-contaminating.
  • Do not judge or criticize another persons burgers. If they are doing it wrong, just remember to host the next party.
