PUBLIC LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAMS: Check with your local public library for free summer reading programs. Most libraries offer special programs through the summer months to encourage kids to read by earning points, putting on free activities, and giving prizes. Logging minutes and reading a bit each day can quickly add up to great rewards from your local library.

  2. Step 2
Free Bowling may be available in your area.

FREE BOWLING: Local bowling allies usually offer free bowling for kids during the day in the summer. Most offer two or three free games per day, with the purchase of shoe rental. Log onto kidsbowlfree.com and type in your city. This site is a great way to locate bowling allies participating in the free summer bowling program.

  3. Step 3
Kids will enjoy Free Movies offered by your local cinema.

FREE MOVIES: Local cinemas often offer free movies throughout the summer months. Check with your local cinema by calling or looking them up online to learn if they participate. The movies are run in the morning and are generally rated G or PG. Kids enjoy going to the cinema and watching a movie on the big screen!

  4. Step 4
Search for Free Nature Programs at your local parks.

CHECK OUT NATURE: Often local parks will offer free nature programs. Get the kids outdoors and learn something new about nature! Check with your park office for a schedule of events and find out if pre registration is required.

  5. Step 5

LOOK FOR LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: Pick up a book of local attractions from your Chamber of Commerce or local Visitors center. You may be surprised at what is right in your back yard for free! Kids will enjoy visiting a local manufacturing plant to learn how potato chips are made, get a tour of the local post office to see what happens to the mail when they drop it in the mailbox, and learn about local history from the historical museum in your area ... just to name a few ideas. Type your city into the computer and see what is available in your area. You may just be surprised at what is free and waiting for the kids to enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
