How to Create Self Expression in an Indoor Fountain

Indoor fountains can make a wonderful focal point for a home, room, shop, business or workspace. Many fountains come in a single color or shade, yet the carvings, depth or details can be quite exquisite. There are simple ways to add customization and self-expression to indoor fountains, helping to transform them from a basic fountain into a customized masterpiece and excellent focal point.

Indoor fountains come in many sizes, from the very tiny, battery-operated ones that conveniently fit on a cubicle desk to large, grand, cascading rock waterfalls found in some malls, churches and schools. There are many sizes and varieties in between, including indoor fountains with pedestals and ones without; indoor fountains with several waterfalls or ones with only one stream; and even fountains that run on solar power, which eliminates the need for batteries or an electrical outlet if your space has adequate sunlight. Add Personal Touches to an Indoor Fountain

1. Add rocks to the pool that collects the water in the fountain. Multicolored rocks, marbles, clear stones, rough stones and natural stones are all possible choices to express your individuality in your fountain setting.

2. Add ribbons of various materials to the fountain in a way that enhances the fountain and expresses your creativity or color palette and style. For example, a ribbon can be added to the hair on a statue of a woman, or to one of a child holding a basket.

3. Add fake flowers or greenery to the indoor fountain. Arranging fake flowers and artificial greenery or vines can enhance the color and depth of an indoor fountain.

4. Add live plants or small fish to an indoor fountain with a large pool area. It is also possible to add a few small plants and a beta fish to smaller fountains.

Tips & Warnings

• Consider using outdoor light strings on the fountain; these are designed to withstand rain or light splashes of water. Shells or money (pennies, nickels, quarters, and dimes) can also be placed in the fountain pool for decoration. Check the directions and specifications for the indoor fountain; some require only distilled water of a specific amount of it to ensure the longevity of the pump.
