How to Make a Table Lantern

Table lanterns are a pretty and easy-to-assemble party decoration. They are an inexpensive way to add color and glow to your informal party. Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 10-inch by 6-inch piece of tissue paper.

    • 2

Wrap the tissue paper around the glass and tape in place.

    • 3

Cut a 10 1/2-inch by 7-inch strip of construction paper.

    • 4

Fold the construction paper strip in half lengthwise. Run your finger along the fold edge to ensure a crisp fold. The paper strip is now 3 1/2 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches long.

    • 5

Measure and mark 1/2-inch intervals along the length of the folded paper. Stop 1 inch from the end of the strip.

    • 6

Make a series of 3-inch-long cuts at each of the marked intervals. Cut from the fold side to the open side.

    • 7

      Unfold the paper.

    • 8

Attach double-stick tape to the top and bottom of the construction paper and to one of the side edges.

    • 9

Lay the tissue-paper-covered glass on the edge of the construction paper that has no tape. Carefully roll the glass over the construction paper, lining up the tops and bottoms of the glass and the paper as you roll.

    • 10

      Insert the tea candle.

    • 11

Carefully light the candle using the fireplace matches.

Tips & Warnings

  • You also can use card stock for this project. Using card stock allows for more color options.

  • Always supervise children when they are around lit candles. Blow out the candle flame when not in use.
