1
Measure the girth around each of the pillar candles using measuring tape. Cut every sheet of paper to that length using decorative scissors. For example, if the candles measure 5 inches around, cut every paper to 5 inches in length.

2
Decide how much of the candle you want to cover with the paper, measure that height, and then cut 1 sheet of the paper into a strip that height using the decorative scissors. If you only want to cover a small area of the candle, cut the paper into a thinner strip. Cut a 2nd piece of paper to a slightly smaller height, about 1/2 to 1 inch is best. Repeat this step with as many layers of paper as you want.

3
Place a small piece of double-sided tape onto both sides of 1 end of each strip of paper. Wrap the largest strip of paper around the candle and attach the taped end to the opposite end of the paper. Repeat with each layer of paper, always starting with the largest strip.

Use alphabet stickers to spell any appropriate wording. If the candle is to decorate for Christmas, you might want to say "Merry Christmas" or "Ho Ho Ho."
