How to Make Pretty Envelopes

You can make pretty envelopes for wedding and party invitations, personal stationery, a business promotion or other needs. There are many beautiful papers on the market to choose from for this project. You can use a specialty, vellum printed scrapbook or a favorite gift paper that has been recycled.

  • Vellum or decorative paper
  • Envelope template
  • Bone folder

Instructions

      Dismantle an envelope from your junk mail or select an envelope template from your crafting supplies.

      Select a piece of decorative paper and place it wrong side up on your work surface.Trace around the envelope or template with a pencil on to the paper you have chosen for the pretty envelope. Be sure to add dash lines for all lines that need to be folded.

      Cut out the envelope shape.

      Score on all dash lines with a bone folder or craft stick. Score all lines a second time. Be sure they are evenly aligned. Fold the scored lines.

      Adhere the side or bottom flaps with paper friendly adhesive.

      Press the flaps of the envelope to the sides to adhere.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the decorative paper is sturdy enough to go through sorting machines if you are sending the envelope through the mail.
