TomTom portable GPS units are recognized as highly accurate and dependable personal navigation devices. They appear in cars, on phones and in the hands of many wayfaring travelers as they navigate city streets as well as back country roads. If you are interested in updating the maps you currently have installed on your TomTom device or would like to download maps for different geographical regions, it can easily be done with a bit of time and minimal effort.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet connection
  • TomTom device with connector cord
  1. Step 1

Download TomTom's Home software to your computer (see link in Resources). Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

  2. Step 2

Connect your TomTom device to the computer with the USB cord and then turn the device on. The Home software will open up and log in, using your TomTom account password. It automatically checks your device for needed updates and allows you to choose if you want to download a new map.

  3. Step 3

Check the box next to the map you want to download and install. Click "Update and Install" to download and install your map.

  4. Step 4

Click "Done," disconnect the device and use it as you normally would.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there is not enough space left on your device to download a map, the Home software will offer to delete a few items to allow the install to continue.
