WordPress has been one of the foremost blog platforms in use. Not only does it offer free blog setup, it also offers the entire open-source code for use with a self-hosted WordPress blog that you host on your own account. Backing up blog content is a good practice. But backing posts, tags, categories, authors and other crucial blog content and data are not automatic. WordPress 2.7 has some built-in features that make backing up a WordPress blog a snap.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select "Export" from the left-hand navigation menu under "Tools" in the WordPress 2.7.x dashboard. If using an older version of WordPress this might appear in the top navigation instead of a side navigation bar.

  3. Step 3

Determine whether you want to backup all authors or individual authors separately. Select the chosen option from the drop-down menu on the export page.

  4. Step 4

Click "Download Export File" at the bottom of the text on the page.

  5. Step 5

Select "Save File" from the pop-up window and click "OK." Your WordPress 2.7 blog will now be backed up in an XML file to your default download location (this location will vary depending on operating system and configuration).
