Things You'll Need:
- Alarm Clock
- Reliable Transportation
- Access to a computer
- Paper and Pens
- TEXTBOOKS
-
Step 1
BE ON TIME. Being late to class drives instructors crazy. You want to be noticed in the classroom, but not in a negative way. There is no such thing as "making an entrance" in the college classroom. A good alarm clock and reliable transportation will help achieve this quality.
-
Step 2
PURCHASE THE TEXTBOOK. All too often I hear of people not purchasing the textbook or getting it from another source and I ask them how they did in the class. Most respond with, "Okay. I could have done better..." Yes. You could have. Get the book. Even if you sell it back, get the book.
-
Step 3
TAKE NOTES. Lectures are meant to help you. Taking notes during lectures will not only help you stay focused, it makes for an easy review before a midterm or final. Effective note taking skills are helpful. (See Step 5)
-
Step 4
SIT UP FRONT. The slackers are known to sit in the back. It has been my experience I do better in a course when I sit near the front. It will help you stay focused.
-
Step 5
DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Even if the homework is just to read a chapter, do it. This may require the use of a computer. It will help your understanding of the material to read it the night before a lecture. The lectures should facilitate what you read, not teach you something new. Some people are visual learners, others are auditory. These lecture/readings help facilitate both styles of learners.
