How to Make Homemade Corn Dogs

How to Make Homemade Corn Dogs thumbnail
A thick batter can produce corn dogs at home.

Will Ferrell's basketball movie "Semi-Pro" was not a huge hit, but those who saw it have a fond memory of the corn dogs scene. Ferrell played a basketball player/owner whose wild promotions included a free corn dog for every customer if the team scored 125 points. In truth, Ferrell's character had no corn dogs to give away, and he is forced to try to sabotage his own team's efforts to keep the score down. Sporting events and carnivals are the usual places you will find this treat, but it is possible to make them at home with the right batter. Does this Spark an idea?

Preheat a deep fryer or a pan of oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2

Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl, then stir in the eggs and milk. Stir the milk in slowly to make a thick batter. Let the batter sit for 5 minutes.

    • 3

Insert the wooden sticks into hot dogs. Roll the hot dogs around until they are thoroughly coated in the batter.

    • 4

Dip a few hot dogs at a time in the oil for 3 to 5 minutes. The batter should turn a light brown around the hot dogs. Lay out paper towels and place the corn dogs on them to drain the excess grease. The corn dogs are ready to eat as soon as most of the grease is gone.
