Things You'll Need:
- Chainsaw
- Electric Split
- Hydrolic Split
- Maul
- Sledge

Step 1
First step is to find your supply. There are many routes to go on this and some people will allow you to use their dead timber for firewood. I recommend buying a cheap piece of land so you can have your own and not worry about your supply.
-
Step 2
Find the right size. Usually subtracting 4 inches off the mouth of your fireplace will be the perfect size for your split wood. Cut all these pieces first with a chainsaw.
-
Step 3
The next step is to use a maul, which is a tool that has a wedge head and looks like a ax. Everything that is over 6 inches in diameter should be split with this object. There are many different types depending how much money you want to spend but you can buy an electric split or a hydrolic split online and will be shipped to you. Electric is good for anything up to 12 inces in diameter and you will want a hydrolic for anything bigger.

Step 4
You should be able to do a whole years supply in a weekend.
