A bookcase can help you to organize your life. Purchasing a bookcase can be expensive and frustrating if you can’t find the perfect size. Why not create your own custom bookcase that will be the perfect fit for your home. You can choose the stain color you like and build it to your own specifications.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • wood
  • wood molding
  • wood glue
  • nails
  • stain
  • clamps
  • tape measure
  1. Step 1
     

    Look at the room you are going to put the bookcase in. Measure the height and width you would like for your bookcase using a tape measure. Go shopping at your local hardware store or lumberyard. They will have a variety of wood choices. You definitely want to use quality wood when creating your bookcase.

  2. Step 2
     

    Decide what molding style you would like to put on the bookcase. You may choose to cut your own molding using a saw or have your local hardware store cut pre-made molding to your specifications.

  3. Step 3
     

    Assemble your pieces using a nail gun. This will be the frame for your bookcase.

  4. Step 4
     

    Measure and attach a wooden backing (luan) to the bookcase.

  5. Step 5
     

    Decide how may shelves you will need for your bookcase. Take a look at how large your photo albums and books are. You will want to have enough space for everything. Will you put baskets on your shelves? Size to fit your belongings that will go on the shelf.

  6. Step 6
     

    Using wood glue and your nail gun, attach the molding the shelf. You will want to use a clamp to hold the molding in place until it dries.

  7. Step 7
     

    You may love the bookcase so much that you want to make another one! Think about what color stain you would like on your bookcases.

  8. Step 8
     

    Stain your bookcase using a quality stain. Apply at least 2 coats to the bookcases.

  9. Step 9
     

    Set the bookcases dry in a cool dry place. Enjoy your beautiful bookcases!
