How to Find Rare Music

Owning all of a band's albums and singles may not be enough for a die-hard music fan. You may wish to purchase rare recorded or live tracks from a particular band as well. These songs and albums cannot be found in chain music stores or well-known websites. This doesn't have to stop you from getting your hands on rare music, though. By knowing where to look, you can find and purchase rare music.

Contact used record store owners in your area. These individuals may have and sell rare vinyls, CDs and tapes at their stores, making your search for rare music an easy one. They may also know rare music dealers or traders in your area, which could be very helpful if you are looking for a rare live recording involving your favorite band.

Visit the Net Sounds Music website (see Resources below). Click the "Rare" link at the very top of the homepage. Once you do, you will find a list for links to stores that sell rare vinyls and rare CDs. Click the link for one of those stores and you will be taken to a Web page with a list of rare music. Click the "Info" link to the left of the rare music you wish to learn about. Once you click that link, you will be able to read about and purchase that album.

Search for rare music at the Music Stack Music Marketplace (see Resources below). The Music Stack Music Marketplace claims to offer more than 25 million pieces of music, including all sorts of rare CDs and albums. Use the search engine at the top of the homepage to search for rare music by artist, album or even genre. After your search completes, you will be taken to a Web page full of different albums, singles and CDs (depending on your search query). From there, you will be able to purchase that piece of rare music.

Look for rare music on the Global E-Commerce Mega Marketplace, or GEMM (see Resources below). Much like the Music Stack Music Marketplace, GEMM is an online marketplace that links you to music stores around the world that sell rare music. You can look for rare music by using the standard search engine in the top right corner of the homepage or click the "Advanced Search" link at the top of the page if you want more search options. After you run your search, you will be directed to a page with a list of rare music that can be purchased online.

Use eMusic to download rare music (see Resources below). The eMusic website states that Rolling Stone magazine called eMusic the "indie iTunes." Users can download either single songs or entire albums from independent artists that are not sold in stores. You will need to join eMusic and download the eMusic software program in order to use the service. Fortunately, eMusic often gives a free trial to new users so you can try out the service before spending any money on music you don't want or like.
