How to Administer Nebulizer Treatment
A nebulizer is a mechanical appliance used for the treatment of respiratory illnesses and problems, such as asthma. A nebulizer is typically used with a handheld inhaler to administer prescription medications that relax and loosen the respiratory airways to help individuals breathe more easily. The nebulizer works by vaporizing medication so that the affected individual may inhale it.

1
Set the nebulizer on a stable surface. Plug the nebulizer into a power source near a table or chair so that the individual using the nebulizer can rest while inhaling the medication.
-
2
Connect the nebulizer's plastic hose to the device's air outlet and the medicine cup.
-
-
3
Pour the medication prescribed by the physician into the nebulizer's medicine cup. This medication is typically albuterol or similar drug that helps relax and open tightened respiratory airways.
-
4
Place the medicine cup's mouthpiece into the individual's mouth or connect the mouthpiece to a face mask if he does not like using the mouthpiece. If using the latter method, place the mask on her face so that it covers her mouth and nose.
-
5
Turn on the nebulizer and him to breathe deeply as the nebulizer vaporizes the medicine. Turn off the nebulizer after all of the medicine has been dispensed. Depending on her breathing rate, this may take up to half an hour.
-
6
Disconnect the nebulizer from the power source. Soak the mouthpiece, medicine cup and plastic hosing in hot water to clean it. Allow them to dry thoroughly before reusing the pieces.
