Cut the ribbons for your border. Ribbon makes an easy and durable border for any bulletin board. Start out with the 4-inch ribbon. Cut four lengths of ribbon: two that are the length of the board and two that are the width. Make sure that you make smooth, straight cuts that are perpendicular to the edge of the ribbon.
-
2
Attach the border using the thumbtacks. Make sure that the ends of each length of ribbon are flush with the borders of the bulletin board. Use four thumb tacks on each end to hold the ribbon securely in place. If you have a very large bulletin board, you may want to add an additional thumbtack every foot or so to keep the ribbon from flapping. The ends of the ribbons will overlap at the corners of the bulletin board.

3
Use the thinner (2-inch-wide) ribbon to make an inner border. This adds some dimension to your bulletin board. You will need two lengths of ribbon that are the length of the rectangle inside the first ribbon border you created, and two lengths of ribbon that are the width of that rectangle. They should be attached so that the ends of the ribbon are flush with the inside corners of the 4-inch-ribbon rectangle. Use two thumbtacks in each end, and tack down the middles of the ribbons where necessary.

Portion off the interior area of the board. If you want the whole thing to be a memo board, then you do not have to do this. However, if you want to just use part of the board for memos, then mark off this area in light pencil.

5
Cut thin ribbons to hold the memos in place. These ribbons need to overlap at right angles, and can be horizontal and vertical, creating squares, or diagonal, creating diamonds. Measure the lengths that you will need using the tape measure, then cut the thin satin ribbon to those lengths. You can make this part of the design as small or large as you like, and it can have large or small diamonds. It may be easiest to sketch out where you want the ribbons on the bulletin board, and then measure and cut the lengths.
-
6
Thumbtack the ribbons into place. This time, you will use one thumbtack at each end and none in the middle. Be sure to pull the ribbons taut as possible. Place a thumbtack at every spot where two ribbons cross. When you are finished, you will have a beautiful ribbon-bordered bulletin board with a set of crisscrossing ribbons that will hold papers and memos.

If any of your pencil guide is still visible, erase it using the gum eraser.
